It's been while since I've done a "life update" so, why not list the highlights from this summer? I didn't go on a week-long vacation, nor even left the country, but it was still eventful and fun.
- Despite Josh and I living in the Glen Rock area since last spring, we haven't been to all that Eagle Rock/Glendale has to offer. We have a couple more restaurants we plan on trying, but we did fall in love with Four Café on Colorado Boulevard. They have a seasonal menu of salads, soups, sandwiches, and I am currently addicted to their grilled chimichurri steak on ciabatta bread. I keep forgetting about their breakfast menu, and I am a huge sucker for lemon ricotta pancakes which they have! Who wants to meet me there on Saturday before 2pm?
- I was able to go to two outdoor Cinespia showings, one for "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and the other was a 3-movie marathon, all 90s movies - "Can't Hardly Wait," "Scream" and "Cruel Intentions". Both were ridiculously fun and I went with different friends for each one. The movie showings are held at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and you can picnic with your buddies while there is a pre-show DJ, an elaborate photo booth (with a huge ass line that I'm too impatient to stay in) and sometimes even drop-ins from the famous cast and crew of the movie you're seeing. At the end of this month I'll be going to the "Back to the Future" I and II showings, see you there?
- Can't afford original works of art, but that doesn't stop me from looking at them, or going to conventions to buy prints of them. In Pasadena, Josh and I love going to Flower Pepper Gallery. It's always so well curated and their window displays are constantly changing and are therefore a must see. We also went to the D23 Expo in Anaheim, a close friend of ours was able to get us discounted tickets to Disney's convention and we bought a few adorable prints that need to be framed. You remember reading that I hate waiting in lines, well that's why we did not get much free swag or did not watch any panels at D23. I don't regret it much though, everything is on the Internet these days.
- Other random tidbits of my summertime include me actually enjoying the pool and the beach. A couple of weekends ago I went to Long Beach and I, Tammy, swam in the Pacific Ocean! The waves owned me in the beginning (ocean water is so darn salty), but once I got far out enough, it was exciting and I got the hang of going against the waves. The best part of this experience was how warm the water was and on that day, the beach had a nice cool breeze. I hope to encounter another great beach day like that. I've been journaling since the end of July, and I hope to keep it up until I can't journal in that book no more. I've collected so many stickers in the process, I should make a post on all the stickers I have now (it's pretty ridunkulous). Lastly, this summer I finally had my tipsy-in-Vegas experience, and luckily I was among my cousins who are locals and took me off the strip. But you know what they say, "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas... as long as you don't post photos of it on social media and hashtag it like crazy." Huh? No one says that?
It was a very hectic summer, but meeting up with my friends and family over the weekends helped me relax and enjoy life.
