This film has been on my radar since Sundance, thankfully it got picked up by IFC and will screen in LA in November. It stars some of my favorites, Alison Brie ("Community"), Lizzy Caplan ("Party Down"), Martin Starr ("Freaks and Geeks"), Geoffrey Arend ("500 Days of Summer"), and Mark Webber ("Scott Pilgrim").
In "Save the Date," fiercely independent Sarah (Caplan) breaks up with her overeager boyfriend Kevin (Arend) and finds herself caught-up in an intense rebound relationship with new infatuation Jonathan (Webber). Always one to give life advice is Sarah's sister Beth (Brie), who is diligently planning her upcoming wedding to apprehensive fiancé – and Kevin's band mate – Andrew (Starr). With heart and humor, all five struggle with the trials, happiness, and pain of modern love.
When I went onto the film's official page, I noticed the illustration style was maybe Jeffrey Brown, another favorite of mine among independent graphic novelists. I went on to find out that Brown not only did the artwork, but also co-wrote the film! When I first started getting into comics, "Clumsy" was one of the first ones I picked up. His drawings are simple, but his stories are poignant and relatable. He even made available a soundtrack which includes a booklet of his illustrations regarding "Save the Date." If you can't tell by now, I'm really excited for this movie!
